Course Overview

An interior design enables a student to look at a space through the lens of a designer. The fundamental skills of a student in drawing, design concepts, material technology and design history are polished. The knowledge of technical and aesthetic principles builds a foundation for space planning, color, materials, and finishes. Moreover, the student will learn how to communicate their design both verbally and visually. A year-long diploma program is divided into two semesters that undertake a consolidated teaching plan and hypothetical design projects. These projects resemble live design projects in every aspect thus requiring students to build all the skills a designer needs to come through a real-life project.

Curriculum

1st Semester 2nd Semester
  • Fundamentals of Interior Design This course introduces the basic elements and principles of Art and Design topics required for a student at the entry level. The course deals with the importance of art elements, principles and their applications in the creation of new design.
  • Construction & Material I This course provides an understanding of the different construction methodology, learning about the parts of the structure and application of construction details in interiors. Course also covers various materials, uses, specifications and applications in interiors.
  • Fundamentals of Drawing This course enables students to learn the medium of drawing and drafting to successfully represent presentation and working drawings. Course provides conceptual and technical knowledge to resolve problems of representation. Course prepares the students to completely represent a design proposal.
  • History of Interior Design The course emphasizes on developments of interior elements in response to social, religious, aesthetic and environmental factors. Course provides an overview of the changes brought about in art, design and architecture through the ages with respect to the timeline, geography and social context.
  • Fundamentals of Interior Design This course introduces the basic elements and principles of Art and Design topics required for a student at the entry-level. The course deals with the importance of art elements, principles and their applications in the creation of a new design.
  • Digital Design I This course provides an understanding of software skills required for the students of interior design. Course covers Autodesk AutoCAD software to provide students with the skills to digitally present 2d drawings. The basics of 3D software’s to start with visualization skills.
  • Design Project I This course implements the subject knowledge into practice. The course deals with a hypothetical project and follows a design process while inter-relating the topics that develop along with the design process.
  • Interior Detailing
    This course provides a technical understanding of the construction techniques, materials and interior detailing. Course deals with terms and terminology of the built structure and gives the student information on the properties, management, specifications, use, application and costs of the materials used in the interiors.
  • Construction and Material II
    This course provides a detail understanding of different parts of a structure with respect to construction and building technology. Course also covers various materials, uses, specifications and applications in interiors.
  • Interior Services
    This course provides an understanding of the required knowledge of services that are designed in the interiors of a building. The course deals with interior services of different aspects like lighting, plumbing and acoustics. Course introduces the technical representational methods of services required for interior projects.
  • Interior Furnishes and Elements
    The course provides a framework in understanding the socio-cultural and historical aspects that influence the design of accessories and products based on their lifestyle. This course imparts the knowledge of various styles, systems and products available in the market. Course enhances the aesthetic perception, materials, design and working parameters in designing products and lifestyle accessories.
  • Digital Design II
    This course provides an understanding of software skills required for the students of interior design. Course covers softwares to provide skills to present 3d views and renders to improve presentation and visualization skills.
  • Design Project II
    This course implements the subject knowledge into practice. The course deals with a hypothetical project and follows a design process while inter-relating the topics that develop along with the design process.

Aditha is an architecture graduate from Thiagarajar School of Architecture in Tamil Nadu, with over eight years of professional experience. He has contributed to a range of projects, including hotels, commercial buildings, hospitals, residences, and luxury villas. Currently, he serves as a senior architect at Design Studio, where he is responsible for designing spaces, issuing drawings, and overseeing site execution. Aditha has been with BSDT since its inception, sharing his extensive industry knowledge with our students. He provides practical, up-to-date guidance, offering hands-on learning experiences and mentoring thesis students to develop well-designed and executed projects.

Achievement

Aclimandos joined the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt in 1983. He was elected to the board of governors in 1987 and re-elected in 1988 and 2007. Donor Programs committees, and as vice president, membership from 2001 to 2005. Aclimandos was elected President of AmCham Egypt in 2013 and served for two consecutive terms till 2017.

Biography

Chinthana H.A is a dedicated architect and urban planner with expertise in architecture, urban design, and interior design. With a focus on sustainability and heritage conservation, she has contributed to various commercial, residential, and institutional projects. Chinthana is also LEED-certified, reflecting her commitment to environmentally responsible design. Her work includes GIS mapping for the Bangalore Master Plan for 2023, as well as research like her dissertation on "Redefining Heritage " and thesis on &;Redefining Parks,&  which explore innovative ways to blend heritage preservation with sustainable development. Additionally, she has published Child and City, showcasing her holistic approach to urban and architectural design.
